This workshop will cover both the principles and skills necessary to fire a Raku kiln.

Participants will be shown, and gain hands on experience in, glazing for Raku firing, loading and unloading a kiln, firing the kiln, and post-firing reduction and quenching. Health and safety will also be covered.

Attendees are required to bring bisqued ware to glaze and fire during the workshop (to fill approximately 500 x 500 x 350mm). Participants should wear covered footwear and bring sunglasses.

About the Tutor

Joelle March is a veterinarian and a ceramicist. Having run the community Raku group at Auckland Studio Potters for well over 10 years, she has vast experience in Raku firings, including naked Raku.

Joelle has many interests in the world of pottery and is always keen on expanding her library of skills.
